About Us

Church Doors

At St Thomas', we meet as a church because we have found Jesus Christ to be the truth who offers hope to all.  We want to give everyone the opportunity to find out about Jesus and the life that is possible with him.

If you visit one of our services on a Sunday, you’ll find that we are a large and lively community of Christians who meet together in the centre of Lancaster.  Nearly 600 adults and children gather each Sunday, drawn from all-ages (0-100+) and all walks of life, to worship God together.  We aim to be a friendly, encouraging, and welcoming church, and we hope you will find us so if you visit.

If you want to dig a bit deeper into the kind of church we are, you’ll find that we can be briefly described by three words:
•    Evangelical
– this means that we take the Bible seriously, because we believe it is God’s inspired word, and therefore our ultimate authority in all matters of faith and doctrine.  This means we place a high value on trying to understand the Bible as well as we can, and apply it fully to our lives and that is also why we are members of the Evangelical Alliance

•    Charismatic
- this means that we want to be open to God’s Holy Spirit, who we believe is living and active in our world today.  We believe that God speaks to us today, and we believe that he has given an amazing range of gifts to his church, and so we want to be open to all that God wants to do in and through us. We want to be open to all that God wants to do in and through us, and that is also why we are members of the New Wine network.
•    Anglican
- this means that we are part of the Church of England, and the worldwide Anglican Communion.  We’re very informal at St Thomas’s, but we do make use of the rich resources of Anglican liturgy (spoken prayers) in our services, and we are connected to other Anglican churches through the Diocese of Blackburn.

There’s lots more information about us throughout the rest of the website.  Enjoy exploring, and please do come say hello in person – we’d love to meet you.
