Roofbreakers is a national initiative hosted by Through the Roof which has been adopted by the Parochial Church Council.

We aim to…

…equip our church community to become a welcome and safe place for all. Our particular focus is on including people with additional needs.

‘One day Jesus was teaching…some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

Luke 5 v 17-26

What we do…

Roofbreakers aspire for St Thomas’s church to be known as one of the most welcoming and inclusive churches in Lancaster, the Diocese, the North West and England. We aim to enhance church life for all.

We will listen to people’s views, increase awareness by providing information, advice and guidance and implement practical solutions.

We meet regularly and welcome anyone to meet with us or join our mailing list. Please come and talk to us about your ideas for inclusion.

Here are some of our current actions:

• have an inclusion box in church with some useful information, accessible Bibles and things to support people during meetings
• raise funds to purchase tablets so people can mirror the information screens in church and see what is going on
• campaign for a Changing Place (fully accessible toilet facilities)
• talk to church members and others about how we can help our church community become even more inclusive for all.
• create an inclusion guide to provide information about how to join in church life and how other people can help
